A Whanganui workshop aims to teach cyclists how to stay safe around large vehicles like trucks and buses.
It’s free and takes place on October 10, with riders reporting to Splash Centre reception at 3.45pm and the workshop running from 4-6.30. Parts of it will take place in a room at the Splash Centre, but cyclists are also asked to bring their bikes and a raincoat in case of rain, and be ready for a short ride.
They will also get a chance to get into the cab of a truck and find out exactly how much a truck driver can see.
The idea is to give adults who bike the confidence, knowledge and skills to safely share the road with heavy vehicles. There are separate workshops for the drivers of heavy vehicles.
Register for the Share the Road workshop with Whanganui Bicycle Users Group co-ordinator Lyneke Onderwater before October 2. She can be rung on 021 268 2052 or emailed at wbug@can.org.nz.
