Development

In 2016 the Whanganui District Council received funding from New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) to develop two major infrastructure upgrades that will provide more active travel options.

Shared pathways enable people to get around on foot, by bicycle, scooter, skateboard and with mobility aids – and our town is starting on a project to create two more high quality shared pathways. These are City Bridge to North Mole and Te Tuaiwi which runs from the bottom of St John’s Hill, along St Hill Street to the Whanganui River.

These pathways and the areas around them will be places for you to enjoy and connect with the Whanganui River and town centre, just as much as they will encourage active travel.
